Rani Drissi
  • A Native Moroccan, born in Casablanca and raised in the sun drenched northern part of the country (Tangier)
  • Entrepreneurial minded he started an enterprise educating and organizing trips and tours for European and North American visitors around the quaint town of Tangier and surroundings.
  • In search for a more promising Future, he immigrated to Canada in the 80's and made The beautiful city of Calgary his home ever since
  • True to his roots, continued in his calling in the hospitality industry, worked in the restaurant business for the past 20 years.
  • Using his entrepreneurial savvy he understood that in order for him to create a successful and true Moroccan restaurant he would have to have three equally important elements: Business knowledge (Rani), Cuisine knowledge (Himmy), Decor knowledge (Carrie)

    Carrie Drissi
  • A Native Canadian, born in Alberta and has resided in the beautiful city of Calgary for 30 years.
  • Artistically inclined Carrie started a hobby that would later become instrumental in designing the Casbah
  • The first time Carrie visited Morocco; she fell in love with its colours, designs, handicrafts, and architecture. This would later be the basis of a large repertoire of ideas that will be used in the design of the Casbah (a true Moroccan setting) and drawn upon by the chef in the Kitchen

  • Chef's Background (Himmy):
  • Native Moroccan, born and raised in the sunny southern Sahara
  • As a young lad in Morocco, he used to always accompany his grandmother (a native to the Sahara), a master traditional cook, to the local markets (SOUKS) to pick out the freshest of the spices, vegetables, and meats. It was during these formative years that all the culinary know how was infused from his grandmother to him, forming the basis of his passion for a true Moroccan cuisine.
  • The chef developed his natural talents in culinary schools and practiced as a true chef in renowned Moroccan restaurants, in Casablanca
  • Immigrated to Canada, where he continued in his tradition to work as a chef at The Casbah
